After carrying around a 17″ HP for 2 years, I decided that it would be better for me to downsize. This Acer has been perfect. 4 pounds with a targus case and everything I need to carry, including the power supply. You will need an external DVD/CD though in order to load your programs. The HD in this netbook allow you the option of loading everything you want. The included 3 cell battery lasts me about 2 hours of use and 10 or 11 hours on standby.

This little white computer rocks. Don’t know where they got them from, and how they are able to sell them for so cheap. I hope they didn’t fall off the back of a truck. (Just Kidding.) I’m very impressed, though. I’ve been a Mac user for 8 years. This is just another example of Macs great craftsmanship. I would suggest this Mac to anyone who wants to have everything and be up-to-date in the Mac world without paying $1,2000 and up. There’s only a few minor suggestions I have: download the newest software after installing Mac OS X Tiger (It costs about a $100 bucks.), google search Firefox and install it, and go to apple.com and search in the support section for this Mac, iBook G4, so you can get the user’s manual. That’s about it, and it will be running like you paid $1,400 for it.
And where are the blemishes!!??? I didn’t see any. Awesome deal, awesome Mac. You guys rock!!!

This computer is the best laptop ever. But i guess would be enjoyed if you are a student ha!)

Received this product and i had some problems, the airport card wasnt functioning so i bought a new one, then the computer needed software, which i didnt figure in having to purchase. So, for me it was disappointing, but i sold it to my sitter, and she got a great deal, she was very pleased to own an apple, i was very happy to go back to my pc w/microsoft fuctions. So, guess its up to you, if your an apple fan, and already familiar this is a great product, and for those of us who havent a clue about the apple software etc..this is a real pain to convert. I have to say it was nice and small, and for me that was what i wanted for my college work, and it was light weight.

This computer is byfar the BEST laptop I’ve ever had. Being a college student it was imperative that I find something cheap but good. And the fact that I was able to find a Mac at such a low price still amazes me. I got mine today and it works like a dream! You can surf the web incredibly fast. Save alot of music, plays dvd’s nice and crisp. Wireless is very simple and easily acessible. I just love it and I would recommend it to anyone!
Ps. This laptop would be perfect for a college student!

I guess it was a good deal for the money? Seems to work alright, no instruction booklet came with the laptop, can’t get the internet working yet along with a few other issues…we’ll figure it out
But…all in all, it’s a nice laptop and I have faith!

i own a small business, and have numerous computers at work for my employees and myself, as well as numerous computers at home for my various family members ….
i also “had” a laptop which i mainly used when i went on business trips or on vacation to mainly surf the internet, do some basic word processing, use power point, or to check my email…
the laptop i had served it’s purpose, was very bulky and heavy….
i just purchased the Asus 1000HE, and i absolutely LOVE it…. it is small, and will do everything i want … i don’t need a power-computer as i have desktops for those purposes….
it is a bit heavier than i was expecting but still quite light …. screen is excellent and clear … hard drive is already divided into “c” and “d” drive, so no need to re-partition … sound is excellent ….
so if you need a computer for travel or light business uses, this is the greatest thing since sliced bread !!! i find myself using it around the house since it is so light and small… my kid has also fallen in love with it…… any way, buy it and sell your old laptop….. you will not regret the decision ….

I wanted a small, light netbook that would operate on batteries for at least 6 hours, work well with Skype video, and would handle Microsoft Office and Rosetta Stone. My ASUS HE 1000 with optional 1gig ram does all of that effortlessly. I have no doubt that this little computer will meet my needs for a true portable for years to come.
I enthusiastically recommend the ASUS HE 1000 to anyone who shares my limited computing requirements. If you are a gamer, or require very high quality audio/video I suggest you look at other reviews. ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch Netbook (1.66 GHz Intel Atom N280 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB Eee Storage, Bluetooth, XP Home, 9.5 Hour Battery Life) Blue

Have had the ASUS 1000HE for a few weeks now and cannot imagine ever needing to take my laptop on a trip again.
Before unpacking the Asus I got a few accessories to make it a truly mobile set up. Got the Case Logic LNEO-10 neoprene case and would strongly recommend it. The 1000HE fits perfectly in the main pocket and the external pocket is large enough to hold the power supply, a wireless mouse and one more accessory I will mention later. Went a little over the top with a Logitech VX Nano wireless mouse but it is compact and has handy forward and back web page buttons. Also got an LG slim external DVD drive that allowed me to install an Internet security package and some other software.
Back to the Asus…
When turning it on for the first time you go through a few simple setup questions and register online.
The keyboard has a good feel and allows me to type almost as well as a full size desktop keyboard. The system keys are logically located and do not need multiple keys to be held down at once to use them.
Battery life has been very good so far. Not quite the 9.5 hours advertised but cannot complain with the more than 7.5 I have got. The power supply is compact but gets pretty warm and care should be taken when handling it.
The hinge feels solid, and while the long life battery is not perfectly flush it does not stick out anywhere near as much as other extended batteries I have seen. I like the dark blue color but it is a fingerprint magnet.
I agree with various comments about the sound being a little weak from the internal speakers and through the headphone socket. Cannot really expect the internal speakers to be that powerful but hoped for more with headphones. However, I feel it is a personal preference to like music and movies to be loud and for a lot of people it will be sufficient. To solve this I did a little research and today I received a Headroom Total Bithead amplifier. It is a little bigger than a pack of cards and runs on 4 x AAA batteries. While it cannot help with the built in speakers it works as a basic amplifier if connected through the headphone socket, or can be connected to a USB port and then becomes an external sound card. I have only tried it connected through the ASUS headphone output and can simply describe the improvement as WOW! It can also be used with an MP3 player.
The built in Star Office software has a basic word processor, presentation slide generator, spreadsheet program and image editor. I will probably install MS Office.
Would like to install some simple games to complete the entertainment side of things but need to research just what can be run on a netbook.
I have the screen resolution set to 1024 x 600 and the image is crisp and there is no need to scroll left or right when surfing the Internet, as long as you do not have Favorites pinned open.
Overall I am very happy with it and strongly recommend this netbook.

I love everything in this little wicked machine but what really caught my attention is the mac-like capability of its touchpad and the amazing battery life. Truly gratifying!

I recently helped my sister purchase this computer and as the techie of the family, I set it up for her. We purchased the 2 GB memory module and stylish carrying bag. Here’s a quick overview of the netbook:
(1) It’s not a high-end or power-user computer but that’s not it’s purpose. It’s meant to be a portable computer that allows you to do work on-the-go. We/I loaded it up w/Skype, MS Office 2003 Business Suite, Google’s Picasa (photos), Blackberry Desktop app, Google Chrome, Firefox, CutePDF Writer, Filezilla, Skype (included), iTunes, printer and scanner software, Twitter, Trend Micro Suite, OoVoo (video IM) and more smaller apps. My sister is able to run all the apps w/out issue and the extra memory helps to run multiple apps at once.
(2) Fingerprints. You’ll have lots of fingerprints on the exterior of the netbook but that’s easily cleanable. It’s not a show stopper but those that one a spotless computer need to carry something to keep it clean.
(3) Wireless. We didn’t have any issues connecting to wireless networks or wifi printers on the network. I even installed “Bonjour for Windows” so connecting to a printer that was connected to my Apple router was a breeze. Also, my sis & I were able to use skype wirelessly w/out incidence or loss of quality.
(4) (No) CD-ROM. I dare say that many, if not all of the netbooks/sub-notebooks do not have an internal CD-ROM and that’s how vendors are able to create such small machines that are light and easily portable. However, installing software was a pain in the…errh…neck to say the least. You can share a CD-ROM on another computer but that assumes that you have another computer available and the end-user understands how this works. I was able to do this but it wasn’t fun. Needless to say, not purchasing even the low-end $20 model was a regret. It should be noted that the USB CD-ROM models do not support creating a CD or DVD…they are just for reading a CD-ROM. If you want the ability to create or “burn” a CD/DVD ensure the model you purchase has those capabilities. I found a few online that were approximately $60 which is not bad because they typically can be used on any computer. Just read the small print.
(5) Laptop case. I picked out a case that included a foam cushion to protect it especially since it has an internal hard drive.
(6) Upgrading memory. Upgrading memory was very easy and not because I’m the techie in the family. You just remove 4 small screws on the back of the laptop, pop-out the memory, replace it w/the new memory and replace the cover w/the 4 screws. I didn’t have any issues with the system recognizing the memory but I booted the laptop into BIOS immediately following the new memory and everything worked fine. I did adjust the memory’s “recommended” swap file and everything has worked well.
(7) Backup Data. Since this laptop doesn’t have the ability to burn CDs/DVDs, natively we installed Symantec’s Ghost to perform backups to an external USB drive. Everyone should always backup their data. We haven’t created any mission critical system recovery files or CDs/DVDs yet but we will.
Summary
Overall, I think this little Netbook is great!! My sister loves this netbook and carries it everywhere she roams.
It almost makes me want one for myself but as a Windows Admin and a power user who loves her Mac laptop, I’d rather hope for an affordable alternative in the Mac world. A portable mac for under $500? Well, I can dream. For Windows users, I don’t think you can go wrong with this machine. You just need to realize that it’s not supper fast nor is it meant to be a power-house machine.

I can’t say enough about this netbook. I bought my daughter the smaller version for Christmas, and found myself using it so much that I ended up buying this for myself. I am upgrading to 2G of RAM — not really necessary, but video lags just a bit full screen - I’m hoping this will resolve!

It’s a great computer…I was able to get into it right away. Only, the MS software is only on it temporarily.

I was hesitant to purchase a netbook, it being so small and all…..but let me tell you. This is a little jewel! I love being able to take the internet with me wherever I go…..or not. Got me a 2wire modem/router and now I can just sit at the table w/hubby, drink our coffee, and surf the web. Or, curl up in bed and check out my message boards. Hubby likes it, too!

The Acer Aspire One has been a good product for us so far. Very portable and powerful given it’s size.
Pros:
The 10 inch screen is serviceable and a good compromise between a 8.9″ screen and a 15.4″.
Nice picture. Speed is fairly good. Amazing battery life with the 6 cell model!
Cons:
The track screen (mouse) is kind of small and the “seesaw” mouse button is too firm and works best using your index finger, so it is more cumbersome if your use to being able to click with your thumb.
15 Beal
It has good size and a nice camera, but the sound is not clear!!
